Andrew Terry, in my opinion, is a man inspired. He once told me a story about a dream he had as a child. In this dream he watched as other kids his age were picked ahead of him to do work for the lord. He conveyed to me the feelings he experienced in that dream. He felt a bit of shame, slight resentment, and jealousy. As he woke up, he realized it to be a dream, and was inspired to work towards his goal of serving God. (Andrew was much more eloquent in the way he told this to me, and this is not a direct quotation, only my synopsis.) He did just that, and when I met him, he was teaching at our church. He was also going to school, working on a degree in theology. Over the course of a few weeks, we became good friends.
Fast forward a few years, and he told me about another man with a dream, and a touch of inspiration. Andrew had been invited to Kenya to meet a fellow Christian, Nick Wasike. After much prayer, Andrew did go. While there he learned what he was being called to do. Nick showed Andrew a door that was hanging open, and through the door was a whisper, calling him to do this work for God. He saw the great need and took steps to help. This is when he contacted some of his close friends, and through his work, formed First Mission.
I cannot express how vital this work is. What good is a teacher, who has not been taught? Jesus himself was instructed in the scriptures of the Old Testament. The most essential tool in a churches toolbelt, are men and women who are properly educated in biblical teachings. First Mission is helping to provide financial support to do this work. There is so much more to expand on, so I look forward to next weeks blog.
Have a blessed Day!
